Washington Wall Art

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can you paint over the print?

Can I upgrade the image?

What about remodeling?

Yes. Washington Wall Art prints can be painted over, typically requiring 2 to 3 coats.

Traditional wall coverings may look great when first installed—but when it's time to renovate, remodel, or rebrand, they often become expensive and time-consuming to remove.

With Washington Wall Arts Vertical Wall Printing, Future Updates Are Simpler.

  • No Vinyl to Peel Off: Printed graphics become part of the wall surface. There are no seams, bubbles, or adhesive residue to remove.

  • Paint Over When You're Ready: Need a fresh look? In most cases, simply prime and paint over the printed wall just like any other painted surface.

  • Faster Renovations: Skip the labor-intensive process of stripping wallpaper or scraping old vinyl adhesives before repainting.

  • Lower Future Costs: Less demolition means lower labor costs, reduced downtime, and faster project completion.

  • Cleaner Remodeling: Avoid damaged drywall, torn paint, and adhesive cleanup that often comes with removing traditional wall coverings.

  • Ideal for Changing Businesses: Perfect for offices, schools, hotels, healthcare facilities, restaurants, gyms, retail stores, and commercial spaces that periodically update branding, décor, or messaging.

2. How does it work?

What is a vertical wall printer?

Washington Wall Art prints directly onto your wall with UV ink using an upright printer similar to the large machines in print shops. Our machine is top of the line, gear and pinion driven. We extend vertical height to around 16 feet using aluminum rails. We also can utilize scaffolding when required. The machine self-drives itself smoothly along aluminum tracks. The tracks are laser leveled and checked twice prior to starting.

Our machine prints on materials that refuse traditional wall coverings and uses laser measurements to remain extremely accurate. We start with your provided image, or source a high-resolution image online of your choice, then upscale that digital image. The higher the resolution of image, the better print quality we can achieve. We then bring in our printer and let our printing machine Arthur go to work!

Vertical wall printer technology represents a paradigm shift in how we conceive and execute surface design. Its blend of precision, efficiency, durability, and unparalleled customization capabilities positions it as an indispensable tool for a wide array of applications—from enhancing corporate spaces to transforming commercial environments and creating large-scale public art.

3. What makes you different?

Washington Wall Art has spent 24 years paying specific attention to detail being a CAD Manager for structural engineering firms. Washington Wall Art printer is the latest generation of vertical printers released 2026. It uses dual lasers to maintain printing distances to the wall and has a first of its kind, pressurized ink system. Our vertical wall printing competition relies on gravity fed ink, which is old technology that may result in fading or uneven prints. Washington Wall Art waited over a year for this specific machine to be produced and released to the US. Our printer uses the top-of-the-line dual Ricoh print heads, and we print white prior to printing color, ensuring accurate image tones. Our entire system moves linear on rails ensuring accurate printing. We have the ability to print extremely tall images, and width is unlimited.

Traditional wall coverings peel, bubble and crack under pressure. We use UV cured ink, that becomes a part of your wall and will last a very long time. Here at Washing Wall Art, we combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what we do—it’s how we do it that sets us apart. We strive for 100% customer satisfaction.

4. How can I contact you?

Washington Wall Art prefers email contact, as we dedicate all of our attention to the project we’re working on. You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.

5. What’s the advantage of vertical wall printing over traditional wall coverings?

Washington Wall Art allows you to print virtually anything on any wall!

  • Unrivaled Customization: Provides limitless design freedom, enabling the creation of truly unique and personalized wall art that traditional methods cannot replicate.

  • Exceptional Quality and Precision: Delivers high-resolution prints, often achieving photo-quality output, with crisp details and accurate color reproduction.

  • Operational Efficiency: Significantly reduces project timelines compared to manual painting or conventional wallpaper application, leading to substantial savings in labor and resources.

  • Superior Durability: UV-curable inks ensure prints that are highly resistant to environmental factors, maintaining their vibrancy for years (typically 8-10 years indoors, 2-5 years outdoors).

  • Long-Term Cost-Effectiveness: For large-scale or recurring projects, the efficiency and durability of wall printing translate into superior long-term economic advantages.

  • Simplified Maintenance: Printed surfaces are generally easy to clean and designed to withstand the rigors of daily wear and tear.

  • Eco-Conscious Solutions: Many modern systems utilize environmentally friendly inks with minimal VOC emissions, supporting sustainable practices.

6. How do you move your machine around?

Washington Wall Art uses a dolly that specifically tilts our machine keeping our rolling height under 6 feet tall. This allows us onto elevators and through most doorways with ease. We have aluminum vertical rails we attach to extend our total height to around 17 feet tall. We do not use stairs; however, we have a ramp for small 1 or 2 stair entryways.

7. Does your machine work on exterior walls?

Washington Wall Art suggests hiring local Artists for direct sunlight outdoor murals. Large outdoor murals exposed to greater than 50% constant, direct sunlight are often a better application for traditional painted murals over vertical wall printing for several reasons:

  • Superior UV durability: Professional exterior mural paints are specifically formulated to with stand years of intense ultraviolet exposure. While exterior UV inks used in vertical wall printing are durable, constant direct sunlight can gradually cause colors—especially reds, oranges, and yellows—to fade faster than high-quality mural paints.

  • Longer service life: A professionally painted mural can often be restored, repainted, or touched up over decades. A printed image typically requires reprinting if fading or damage becomes significant.

  • Thermal expansion: Exterior walls experience continuous expansion and contraction from daily heating and cooling. Hand-painted murals tend to tolerate these movements well, whereas printed ink on some surfaces may show wear sooner depending on the substrate and environmental conditions.

  • Weather resistance: Painted murals are generally more forgiving in environments with heavy rain, snow, wind, and prolonged sun exposure. Many muralists also apply protective anti-graffiti and UV clear coats to further extend longevity.

  • Maintenance: Small areas of a painted mural can usually be touched up by the artist without affecting the surrounding artwork. Matching an aged printed image for repairs can be more challenging.

For Washington Wall Art, a practical recommendation is to use vertical wall printing for commercial branding, detailed graphics, photorealistic images, only on exterior walls with coverage and with partial sun exposure. Our machine cannot be in direct sunlight, therefor we recommend traditional painted murals for large artistic installations that receive intense, all-day direct sunlight and are expected to remain vibrant for decades with periodic restoration. Washington Wall Art focuses on interior walls and recommends hiring a local artist for exteriors.

8. What’s the largest image you can print?

What size images do you typically suggest?

What will make the best impact for my company?

Washington Wall Art can easily print a 100+ square foot, high-resolution color mural during a single print session.

Washington Wall Art’s rule of thumb is to keep important design elements at least 12–24 inches away from inside corners whenever possible. Faces, logos, text, mascots, and other focal points should remain on a single wall for the strongest visual impact. We also suggest 24 inches above the ground remain clear. Our limitation depends on the image or graphics desired. The maximum image we can print is 3 feet less than the total floor to ceiling height; we are unlimited in printing length.

Common reasons to maintain a printing border include:

  • Image distortion: Corners create a visual break, making faces, logos, and straight lines appear bent or split.

  • Reduced visibility: People rarely view both walls perfectly at once, so the full image is difficult to appreciate.

  • Architectural imperfections: Very few corners are perfectly square, which can cause slight misalignment between walls.

  • Furniture placement: Desks, cabinets, lockers, shelving, and equipment are often placed in corners, covering the artwork.

  • Door and window trim: Corners frequently contain baseboards, crown molding, electrical outlets, light switches, and other obstacles that interrupt the design.

  • More difficult installation: Aligning artwork precisely around a corner requires additional setup and increases the chance of noticeable seams or registration differences.

  • Photography impact: Marketing photos and social media images look cleaner when the focal artwork is centered on a single wall instead of wrapping around a corner.

  • Future renovations: Painting one wall or repairing drywall becomes more complicated when a continuous image spans multiple walls.

  • Brand recognition: Logos, text, and key messaging are easier to read when kept on a flat wall rather than wrapping around a corner.

  • Professional appearance: Centering graphics on one wall typically creates a cleaner, more intentional design.

Avoiding graphics and important images in room corners is usually the best design choice for both aesthetics and print quality.

9. Do you print on canvas?

Yes, Washington Wall Art can print onto most sizes of canvas including large prints for special occasions. We require a minimum of 2 months’ notice and politely request desired canvas materials be supplied.

Washington Wall Art also offers trace printing for artists to make duplicate paintings easier using our trace by number method. We create a digital copy of the painting and print a faint single pass of ink onto the canvas for the artist to complete.

Yes, Washington Wall Art can print on your residential garage walls, and any other areas we can roll our machine to! Accessibility is key, if we can roll our printer to the area, we can print on your wall. We do not like stairs.

12. Can you match our existing paint color palette?

Yes! Washington Wall Art will print a test sheet prior to our vertical printing process to ensure accuracy.

13. Why choose Washington Wall Art over a local artist?

Hand-painted murals and direct-to-wall printing are different artistic mediums. Washington Wall Art specializes in photographic detail, repeatable branding, precision graphics and large-format imagery that would be difficult to reproduce by hand. Washington Wall Art brings digital precision, speed, and replicability to murals and graphics. While local artists create truly unique and exceptional art, vertical wall printing represents its own distinct wall decorating niche. We are the best solution for self-promotion and advertising, informative / wayfinding graphics, or creating a welcoming environment inside your business.

14. What’s the difference between you and those metal and acrylic prints?

Businesses prefer a non-reflective wall surface.

  • Glare from sunlight can make the image difficult to see.

  • Overhead lights create distracting reflections.

  • You may see yourself instead of the artwork.

  • Reflections can reduce the professional appearance of a space.

  • Photos become harder to enjoy from different viewing angles.

  • Video calls may capture distracting glare in the background.

  • Reflective surfaces can create eye strain over long periods.

  • Fingerprints and smudges show more easily on glossy surfaces.

  • Glass-covered artwork can crack or shatter if impacted.

  • Reflections can compete with branding or important messaging.

  • Shiny finishes may highlight dust and imperfections.

  • Bright reflections can distract customers during meetings.

  • Camera flashes create hotspots that obscure the artwork.

  • Glossy images may appear inconsistent under changing lighting conditions
